ParetoLogic Privacy Controls Confirmation Dialog Feature

One of the many features of ParetoLogic Privacy Controls is the Confirmation Dialog, which is a built in Safeguard preventing you from permanently erasing any critical system files.

ParetoLogic Privacy Controls Safeguards

Caution must be used any time you erase or permanently shred file (s). ParetoLogic Privacy Controls uses safeguards to help you verify the selected files are, in fact, unwanted.

Warning: Once you have shred data there is no way to recover it. We recommend that you check each item that is selected before you proceed with the shred.

ParetoLogic Privacy Controls uses these safeguards to ensure that you do not erase data that is needed to run your applications or is critical to your systems functioning.  There is three different built in safeguard as follows: Confirmation Message, Pre-defined Settings (for the Scan and Erase tool), and Confirmation Dialogs (for shredding).

You will see these safeguards only after you have selected items in the Advanced Shred window, added them to the Shred List, selected a Shred Level, and clicked on the Shred button. You will see them BEFORE the actual shred is done.

To learn more about the Advance Shred Option you can read:

1 - Confirmation Message in ParetoLogic Privacy Controls

When you select the Shred button, you get a confirmation message that can be disabled. You can see this message here:

You can disable this from displaying in the future by placing a check in the box next to Do not display this message again located on the bottom left side as seen above. It is best not to do this to prevent you from permanently erasing files that you may want to keep. You should always double check the Shred List before selecting the Shred button.

2 – Pre-defined Settings in ParetoLogic Privacy Controls

You can decide the items you want to scan and the ones you want to erase using ParetoLogic Privacy Controls Options. The first time you open the Options window there are certain items in the category list that are not selected; the box next to the item is not checked. These items will not be included in the scan of your system. ParetoLogic Privacy Controls has, by default certain items not selected that are items you are less likely to want to erase.

Below you can see the Windows category has 17 of 23 items selected:

When you expand the Windows category you can see some of the items that are not checked off to be included in the scan, such as the Document history, Start Menu click history, and Start Menu order history in the example here:

When you use ParetoLogic Privacy Controls you have the choice of erasing any item by including it in the scan by placing a check in the box, but we recommend that you verify that this is what you want. You can at any time, restore the pre-defined settings in ParetoLogic Privacy Controls.

For more information about setting the options see:

3 – Confirmation Dialogs in ParetoLogic Privacy Controls

There are some files on your system that are critical to its functioning. ParetoLogic Privacy Controls protects these types of files by using a confirmation dialog when you try to shred them. You will have to verify that you want to shred these items differently than the confirmation message detailed above.

Items that will result in a confirmation dialog appearing include Windows system files.  All of the folders and files that are located on or below the Windows folder are in this group.

When any of these items are selected you will see the following Confirmation Dialog box:

Once you have verified that the item selected is not needed by your operating system, you can shred it.

To continue the shred process you will have to accept the confirmation as follows:
