How To Add Senders To The Block List
Spam Controls Information
ParetoLogic Spam Controls uses a number of spam prevention techniques in order to greatly limit the amount of spam you receive in your email Inbox on a regular basis. Spam is a pest to every that receives it but it can also bring down the IT infrastructure of small businesses, cripple individual user accounts, and even bring down entire email servers. For this reason it is vital that we all take part in the fight against spam and the perpetrators of these emails. You are the most powerful tool in your fight against spam.
The Use Of Block Lists And Allow Lists
Allow Lists and Block Lists can be used in order to prevent emails from known spammers and accept emails from known genuine senders. While it will, in part, be down to you in order to update both of these lists the software itself will automatically complete some of this task itself if you allow it. Spam Controls will scan each email as it arrives and determine whether or not it appears to contain spam content. Once it has done this it is also possible to have the application add the sender of any spam email to the Block list.
The Block List
Spam Controls consults the Block List every time you receive a new email. If you have received another item from a person on your Block list the email will automatically be treated as spam and sent to the PL Spam Controls folder. If you have added domains to be treated as spam then Spam Controls will look for any senders that have an email address ending in this domain and treat email from these contacts in the same way. This can be an excellent way to assist in the management of spam emails and how each email is handled as soon as you receive it.
Manually Adding Senders To The Block List
It is possible to add an email address to the Block List in one of several different ways. It can be done manually by adding individual emails via the ParetoLogic dashboard, using the ParetoLogic toolbar in your email client, or automatically when ParetoLogic scans your email. When you first install Spam Controls it is likely that you will want to add some senders manually using the dashboard.

Open Spam Controls and click on the Block List link on the main page. In the Block List page there are essentially two main areas of interest. The smaller entry field enables you to type in an email address and then click Add.

This will instantly populate the larger field with that email address and block any emails from that address.

It is also possible from this page to add domain addresses (the section of an email that appears after the @ symbol). By doing this, all senders using an email with this domain will be blocked.

Removing Addresses From The Block List
If you need to remove an email from the Block List simply highlight it in the list at the bottom of the page and click the Remove button. All future emails from that address will be allowed and the entry will be removed from the main list.
Using The Outlook And Outlook Express Toolbar
On your Outlook or Outlook Express toolbar there is a Spam button and a Block Sender button. Highlighting an email and clicking Spam will not only send the email to the Spam Controls folder, but it will also give you the option of blocking that sender. This adds the email address of the sender to the Blocked sender list.

The Block Sender button instantly adds the email address of that sender to the Block list and prevents any future emails from that person being delivered to your Inbox. Using these two toolbar options it is possible to block any senders and emails that may still make it through the Spam Controls spam wall.
Automatically Adding Senders To The Block List
The final, and potentially most beneficial, way to block senders is using Spam Controls to automatically block emails and add senders to the Block List. In order to enable this click on the Options page of the application. Ensure that there are ticks in the following box:
Automatically add sender to the appropriate list
Blocking Senders Summary
By enabling Spam Controls to scan for spam and then add known spammers to the Block List it is possible to prevent the receipt of future emails from those email addresses. For any emails that do get through it is possible to manually add them to the Block List. This can be done by adding email addresses through the Block List page of the application or by highlighting emails within Outlook or Outlook Express and clicking the Block Sender or Spam button on the Spam Controls toolbar.
