During the use of ParetoLogic Spam Controls there will undoubtedly be a lot of spam emails placed in the PL Spam Controls folder. Whenever an email is determined to be spam either by you or by Spam Controls itself it will be placed within this folder. This means that, especially if you typically receive a lot of email, the Spam Controls folder will quickly become filled with useless email. The reason that the email is stored within this folder and not simply deleted immediately is so that you can routinely check that genuine emails are not being labeled as spam and so that you can recover any that are accidentally removed as being spam.

Locating The PL Spam Controls Folder

The PL Spam Controls folder is easily located within your email client. Open Outlook or Outlook Express and click the + sign that appears next to your Inbox. This will bring up a list of all the subfolders of your Inbox that will include a subfolder entitled PL Spam Controls. If you click on this folder you will be able to view all the emails that have been flagged as spam and removed from the main folders of your email client.

By highlighting an email in this subfolder you are presented with several options as well as a number of options that can be accessed either using the toolbar in your email client or directly through the dashboard of the Spam Controls application.

Block And Allow Sender

The Block Sender and Allow Sender options within the email client enable you to flag certain email addresses as being safe or spam according to your preferences. This means that if you find an email from a genuine contact, whether new or old, you can choose to allow that sender to send more emails. The Block Sender option, in contrast, enables you to highlight emails found in other folders and block the receipt of any further emails from that person.

When searching through your Inbox and other email folders you also have the option of highlighting an accepted email and clicking the Spam button. This will move the selected email into the Spam Controls folder for further action or for future purging. Back in the Spam Controls folder clicking the Purge button will delete the entire contents of the folder.

Checking The Spam Controls Folder For Genuine Email

It is advised that users look through the Spam Controls folder on a regular basis, ensure that any genuine emails are placed in the Inbox, add senders to allowed lists, and then purge the email. This will help to ensure that your Spam Controls folder is clean and empty. How often this needs doing will depend greatly on the amount of spam you receive. Users that are heavily hit with spam should clean out, or purge, the Spam Controls folder more often than light users.

Automated Purging

As well as being able to purge spam directly through your email client, whether it be Outlook or Outlook Express, it is also possible to set Spam Controls so that it automatically purges spam on a routine basis. This can be set to any time limit you wish ranging from every day to once a month. This ensures that your Spam Controls folder does not become over filled with Spam while also ensuring that you have time to routinely check through the email to ensure you are not purging any genuine emails.

What Happens To Purged Emails?

Once emails are purged from the PL Spam Controls folder they are immediately delivered into the trash folder of your email client. From here they can be manually deleted entirely from your system or, using your email client's settings, they can be routinely removed and cleared from your email application.

Purging Spam Email

The most effective way to use ParetoLogic Spam Controls is to use it for real time protection against spam. This way, whenever you receive a new email, it will be scanned to look for evidence of spam content. Setting the purge options to automatically remove the contents of the Spam Controls filter offers the ideal compliment to this automated technique of spam prevention, however, you should always take care to routinely check the contents before they are purged.
