Why Use Anti Spam And Phishing Prevention Software?
ParetoLogic Spam Controls is a powerful anti spam and phishing protection application with one of the best success rates in the industry. Using a number of effective spam detection and phishing detection techniques combined with Allow and Block lists means that users receive a wall against these email threats. Spam is not only a nuisance it can also slow your email application and email servers, or even cripple IT infrastructure. Phishing emails are sent in an attempt to dupe users into providing usernames and passwords for websites, or even banking and financial details on fake websites. Both are extremely undesirable and should be avoided at all costs wherever possible.
The Options Screen
Within the main Spam Controls dashboard there are a large number of options for you to choose from. Personalizing the options within Spam Controls enables users to enjoy the best experience possible with the greatest level of protection against spam and phishing emails.
Options Screen Sections
The Options page essentially consists of two different panes – the Email Application Integration pane and the Interface Settings pane.
Email Application Integration
The first pane, Email Application Integration contains the date and time of the last scan of your email, as well as which email applications you are currently using. Email systems that have been scanned recently and contain email appear in a bold font while if you have not used either of the email clients then this will remained greyed out in this section.
Under each of the email clients you will also be given statistics of the scans performed so far. These statistics include the total number of emails that have been scanned and the amount of those in which spam that has been detected.
Interface Settings
Interface Settings can be used to improve the user experience of the Spam Controls application. In particular it can be used to improve how much user intervention is required during the scanning, checking, and purging process. Users can be automatically added to either the Block or Allow list, dialog windows can be enabled or disabled, and spam email can be automatically purged after a given amount of time.
“Mark As” Dialog Window Settings
Display “Mark As” Dialog Boxes?
The very first option in this section enables users to choose whether the Mark As dialog boxes are displayed or not. If this box is ticked then the dialog boxes will appear and the options chosen in the following two boxes will only be prefilled. On the other hand, if the first box is not ticked then the remaining two options will be performed without prompting.
Automatically add sender to the appropriate list – selecting this option will automatically add the email address of a spam email to the Block list. It will also add the email address of an allowed email to the Allow list. The Block list and Allow list are two important aspects of the Spam Controls technique because they are used to determine whether or not an email is spam without even considering the content of the email.
Automatically send a report – it is possible to report spam emails to ParetoLogic for further action. Email addresses are stored and used by ParetoLogic from those emails that are reported so it does carry a genuine use.
Toolbar Information Dialog
When ParetoLogic is installed a toolbar is also added to Microsoft Outlook our Outlook Express. By default a dialog box is displayed when you open your email application giving details of what the toolbar can do and how to use it. In order to enable this dialog and have it displayed every time you log on your system tick this box. Otherwise remove the tick from the box in order to disable the dialog.
PL Spam Controls Email Purging
Email marked as spam is placed directly into the PL Spam Controls folder. This prevents the email from being delivered to your main Inbox negating the need to have to surf through mountains of useless email. It also alerts users that any email in the PL Spam Controls folder should be treated with caution especially when asking for any personal details including financial information or log on details for important sites.
Enabling this option will automatically empty the contents of the spam folder. This will occur according to the number of days you select here. It is a good idea to regularly empty this folder to prevent it from becoming filled with email you do not require. However, emptying it too often may result in you missing vital emails that have been accidentally placed in the PL folder.
Purge Confirmation Dialog
When purging (or deleting) the contents of the PL Spam Controls folder a confirmation dialog is displayed asking if you're sure you wish to purge the folder contents. In order to bypass this confirmation and let ParetoLogic remove the contents without your intervention remove the tick from this box. If you want the extra step included for any reason then enable this dialog by placing a tick in the box on this screen.
Personalizing The Spam Controls User Experience
Spam Controls is a beneficial anti spam and phishing prevention application. It runs in the background of your computer so that you continue using your system as normal without having to remember to scan emails or check for updates. However, through the course of using the software you are likely to come across several instances where you may be required to read a dialog and click the appropriate button. These dialogs can be disabled through the Options screen, which also contains a number of other methods to personalize your user experience of Spam Controls.
